Your experience is the opposite of mine,btw I live in LI,NY. With the very low humidity at this time of the year I have to keep reducing the bias to reduce the amount of crackling. During this past summer at times of high humdity I had to raise the bias quite a bit with one panel at times losing bias more than the other.

Are you sure the humidity is low in your room? You might want to obtain a temp/humidity meter just to know for sure.
