Duke, it's great to hear from you again. I hope all is well, although I am sure you were deeply
saddened by the terrible effects of Kristina on the city of New Orleans. I sympathize with you and
everyone else who was affected.
I am still happy as a clam with the M1s I bought from you two or three years ago, even though
one panel has developed some holes in the mylar along the uppermost edge, affecting only two
or three of the smallest rectangles at the top. But I bet my backplates are hotter hotrods than
the ones you describe.
OK, so the post is also in response to the claim that the difference in the arc of the speaker could
possibly effect a 6db improvement in efficiency. I am skeptical. But if so, that Parasound
amplifier that is planned for use at CES is way overkill. IF there is really a 6-db improvement in
efficiency, 40 to 50W is plenty of power. Is it true that SL is now using a new type or brand of
mylar and/or a new way of framing that is less likely to result in tears in the diaphragm? When I
listen to my friend's 20-year-old Acoustats or my own 30- to 40-year-old KLH 9s that have not
had any such problems in their respective lifetimes, I have to think that improvement in this area
is much needed for SL.
