If what you say about your speakers is true, then I am sure you have our collective sympathy. However, the information you received from the factory seems contradictory to what I was told by Duke Lejeune. He said that he prefers to bias the speakers such that there is always a very low level crackling sound, and I follow his advice with my M1s which I purchased from Duke. So far, I have lived with an audible crackling sound for several months with absolutely no deterioration in efficiency or sound quality. Perhaps Duke could comment. Should I immediately reduce the bias voltage on my speakers until there is absolutely no audible "crackling"? (In fairness to the factory, the owner's manual DOES recommend the practice of setting the bias such that the crackling sound is just below audibility. What the owner's manual does NOT say, as you point out, is that there are dire consequences from leaving the bias a little high for prolonged periods of time.)
