It was very nice of you to explain once again the difference between "damping" of an ESL and that of a conventional electromagnetic driver. I briefly flirted with being a physics major in college, before I discovered the wonders of biology, so I think I remember studying damping with respect to "simple harmonic motion". What you say makes sense and speaks to something I long wondered about. It didn't seem logical that the rules for damping applied to a cone speaker could apply to an ESL, and moreover in support of that hunch, I noted how wonderfully good, accurate, and extended was the bass response from my U2s and now my M1s, using my Atma amps with no NFB and a rather high output Z. I wonder whether those of us who use Wolcott amps can corroborate Al's hypothesis? Do your SL speakers sound best when the "low damping factor" setting is applied?
