It appears that you have a physically imposing pair of speakers with potential for awesome performance. I don't know whether the toroidal treble transformer was available back in 1989, but the factory certainly can tell you. And you can find out for free by opening up the power supply, which you apparently have to do now anyway. As for the recent glitch, you can hope that you blew an element in the hi-pass filter preceding the audio transformer that drives the midrange/treble screen. If you are a tech, the problem will be readily apparent to you when you examine the parts. If you damaged the treble audio transformer, that's replaceable too without a trip to the factory and assuming you know what you are doing. It's unlikely that you damaged the panel itself, IMO. Are you able to post a photo of these beasts? I would be very curious to see what they look like. As for higher power amplification: Wolcotts, Atma-sphere MA2, or a dark horse candidate would be the high power tube amp that HP has recently touted in TAS. I forget the name, but the price is less than half that of the Wolcotts and even a smaller fraction of that of the Atma MA2. Any or all of the foregoing amps and others that are suitable could be available on the used market for considerably less money.
