Mark,
i just finished packing and shipping to Sound Lab a pair of A-1 cores as well as their backplates, and, let me tell you, it was loads of fun having to carefully remove those cores from their frames, wrap them in two layers of bubble-wrap, assemble the shipping cardboxes myself and finally fitting the cores inside each cardbox...!!!....undescribable hours of fun...!!!
as far as the shipper, i chose the one that had the best price while still being listed on the local phone book, and that turned out to be a company by the name of "K2 LOGISTICS" which has its own web-site and ships items anywhere in the continental USA as well as worldwide. apparently they are a major player in the industry and, in my particular case, i was quoted shipping rates of almost 50% off compared to the competition....hopefully they will do a good job with the shipping !
as you noticed from my above description, i assembled the shipping boxes myself from flat cardboxes which i cut, folded and taped into boxes which were then fashioned into "bottom" boxes and "top cover" boxes, each fitting inside the other for better protection during shipping as well as providing a "stiffer" finish.
i don't know whether or not the PRISTINE IIs have similar wooden frames as the A-1's but in case they do, i would venture to say that the safest way to ship them would be by assembling plywood crates lined with foam, which would be quite time-consuming and expensive to do, and, the next best choice would be to disassemble the speakers and ship the parts separately, similar to what i did to my A-1's.....
