Roger and all at Soundlab owners group. My Soundlab cores and back plates were recently returned to be upgraded. I have been playing them for some weeks now, evaluating the break in process.
My first pair of Soundlabs were the A1, purchased about 1989 and they were absolutely wonderful. A few short years after, realizing I could never be happy with any other type of speaker, I ordered my Ultimate One's. My pair was among the very first run. So early in the development stage the toroidal transformer was not quite ready. A short while later the upgrade transformer and detailed instructions were shipped, allowing me to retrofit without return to the factory.
There have been a few problems, the factory has always been there with help, advice and excellent service, and when I completely rebuilt my listening room I felt the need to return my speakers to make certain they were as good as they could be.
I must say I am surprised. This pair of cores along with my new back plates sets an all new standard in audio excellence. My intention was to call Roger and Connie multiple times in the last few weeks, but time keeps slipping by without my doing so.
As of this evening, my system reached a level of perfection, a level I did not think was possible. I have always loved Soundlabs, but even after a decade plus of listening, I have never experienced this level of resolution, transparency and freedom of noise. This version is not only excellence personified, it is dead quiet (electrically). This is true even when standing right beside them.
Whatever technology and assembly techniques the factory is applying to the current run of speakers is absolutely correct, no doubt at all. I am so completely satisfied that praise should be offered. I think this is the appropriate time to do so.
