I am currently using a large 100w adjustable resistor. It get just warm after about ½ hours playing time. Like Lew, I don’t think the type used here is all that important. The capacitors used are another matter altogether. I am using Polystyrene and I would highly recommend them but they are hard to find in larger values. This type of capacitor in larger sizes is not manufactured any more because the only company that produced the film stopped production. When I obtained mine about a year ago the largest size available from NOS was 1uF, you will need quite a few to get to the value you need.
