Thanks to everyone that responded to my question about the R-3. The info is very much appreciated!! I was assuming that since SL advertised both the R-3 and R-4 sub at the CES that the R-4 sub was used at the show. From the feedback it's clear that no one was impressed with the R-3 based on how it was setup at the show.
I'll follow that with another question if I might. I've been thru M60MKII.2's and Wolcotts and finally have purchased a pair of MA-1MKII.2's (which I absolutely love) with all the optional mods from AS. These were purchased to drive a pair of Quadratures which are a three way DSP speaker currently out of production.
I want to try some Soundlabs as I've never really cared for dynamic speakers. The only pair of SL's that I've ever owned were the original Pristines which I could never get satisfied with despite changing literally everything else in my system. I've had many of the Magnepans, Acoustats, and ML CLS's. The Quadratures are the first and only pair of dynamic cone speakers that I've ever owned. I've never been able to hear a properly setup pair of Soundlabs.
I'm strongly considering a pair of M-2's and am seriously considering flying down to NO and listening to SL's at Duke's. My listening room is 27x17x10. Finally, my question......Based on the member's experiences do you think that the MA-1MKII.2's with all the options can drive the M-2's in my room to reasonable SPL's. I don't listen often beyond 90db averages based on the Radio Shack SPL meter but would like to have reasonable headroom with the amps and also get the bass performance of which the M-2's are capable. You will note that I did purchase a pair of Wolcott's which clearly did not sound as good on the Quadratures as the AS so I sold them. My wife absolutely hated the Wolcotts and loves anything from AS. Based on everything I can read the Wolcotts are the best thing going with SL's. How do you see the tradeoffs between the Wolcotts and the AS on the M-2's??? As usual, any insights from members are very much appreciated. Thanks!!
