For those of you that don't know, Joe S. and I speak on the phone fairly often. I know this is a real issue for him and he is posting the facts. I wish I knew what was going on, I have not had this problem and we have very similar equipment.

Joe, I did as you requested and measured my Soundlab U-1 sound pressure output using the analog Radio Shack meter. I too am running Wolcotts and they are tubed almost identical as yours. The only big difference is the room and source. My test was done with my turntable.

The report: I am getting peaks of 99 to 101 DB at 13 feet without clipping.

I might be able to get a little more, but the amps were being seriously pressed. This is adequate volume for me, I typically listen at 75 to 85 DB and occasionally go to 95 DB for fun stuff like "Oh Yea" by Yellow, or similar "grin" material.

I have another pair of amps coming for evaluation, the Bruce Moore 225 mono blocks. If they deliver more magic than my Wolcotts or (previous) Atmasphere, I will post results.

Important thing here is Soundlab speakers. I would do whatever necessary to make them work.
