I have a Sony SCD-1 SACD player going through a transformer-based passive preamp (Bent Audio using S&B multisecondary transformers) to a Wolcott. The SCD-1 produces 2 volt max output via the unbalanced connectors, and the Wolcott requires 1.7 volts for full output. I normally run at round 12 db of "attenuation" in terms of voltage (but not power since the transformer increases current and decreases impedence with more voltage attenuation). I have no trouble driving the Wolcott and A-1s to a greater SPL than I could use. I probably listen at around 90db average SPL based upon past radio shack SPL readings. I don't detect any clipping.
I do not have the crossover upgrade on the A-1.
