wanted: pair of A-1, U-1 or M-1 speaker panels

I'm interested in circa late 90's early 2000's full size speaker panels (just panels only).  Any model would be OK, U-1's, A-1's or M-1's.  These would be the plastic 90 degree frames with screws to clamp the front and rear halves together.  My preference is for the 20 wire stator cells, not the 28 wire.  Does anyone have a pair they would like to sell?  What is the consensus fair value for these?

I am curious to know why this is your choice. IMHO, Sound Labs have only gotten better over the last 25 years, today's PX models being the best.

I have a stereo pair of panels like this and am planning to build a 6 channel system and want them to match sonically.  Cost is another factor, new being much more expensive.  What would be your estimate of the market value for these?

Twenty+ year old, non PX panels should be very cheap, perhaps in the $2k range, but I would not chance buying without auditioning unless you absolutely trust the seller. The U-1's would be much more due to the metal frames which should not have suffered due to age.

Personally, I would still opt for PX panels as the main pair, as I believe the sonic character has remained basically the same over the years; it's just gotten better, and the reliability factor has increased dramatically.

Are building your own frames and acquiring parts on the used market to build your 6 channel system?
Did you go to an authorized dealer who can contact the factory on your behalf to see if they have "trade -in" on surplus panels of the old design?
Just curious..... Wink
PS
I agree with TWB the PX panels are more desirable.

Yes, I'm building my own frames.  I'm in no hurry so I haven't contacted SL.  I have a friend who is a dealer here so I always check with him anyway.

I've heard the PX panels and am still perfectly happy with mine.

I've heard Auras from the late 80s (?) that are still wonderful to listen to.
Good luck on your project. Some folks like Chateau Margaux, others Lafite.
I believe there is an esteemed mastering engineer who uses 6 or more Majestics in his studio.

If not too late, I have a pair of panels from my U-1s that were refurbed at the factory in 2005.  While they do not have the PX lattice, they share some of the newer technology.
