There are no disadvantages to our knowledge to using the FRAB backplates (Full Range Auto Bias).
In fact there are advantages – some obvious ones which is why ‘amazing’ is a good catch-all term. (convenience, saving cost on power chords, location of AC outlets, FRAB can be used worldwide irrespective of country’s standard voltage) – the power taken from audio signal means it is ‘cleaned’ thru any power conditioning already being used to feed your amplifier (if there were any concerns on that issue anyway) and panel backplates are grounded thru the amplifiers ground. Roger has been using a version of this for over 3 years until I discovered it on a recent visit to him and asked him why he hadn’t introduced this earlier…too many other things to do and just didn’t think of it…..I guess better late than never!
