Toe In

Hi, I have found that I get the best sound with toe in but not with the horizontal center aimed directly at my ears. Rather I aim the inside 2 cells directly at my ears. I feel that this results in the most coherent sound. Chris feels that this is because there is less interaural crosstalk coming from the inner portion of the panel to the opposite ear.

I have owned U1s for 33 years and this is how I do it first I established my seat position then I take a small flashlight and put it between my eyes then aim it directly at the center cell until it reflects back to my eyes on the left and right center cell of both speakers. My speakers have a solid center image using this method. I also have an equilateral triangle between the speakers and me. When I listen to my system I make sure the off center distance from my head and the panels are under 1/4 of an inch when setting in my listening chair this helps with signals coming from both speakers getting to both ears at the same time, this seems unnecessary to some but believe me it does make a difference.

I haven’t played with it, like many would. I follow the simple philosophy of toe-in to point the center-line of the speaker to the ear in the usual listening position.
I’m close to this, i think it pointed the center-line about 2″ out from my ear (slightly less toe-in).
