      Hello Bigtwin,

I’m driving A645 with Atma Sphere MA-1 tube mono blocs, 2 x 140W, OTL. I have also a matching Atma Sphere MP-1 preamplifier. Previously I have owned all Quad speakers and a couple of other ESL including big Stax ELS speakers.

Congratulations on your purchase of Majestics. You have just purchased a pair of the very best speakers ever made on this planet.

While many owners of SL drive these speakers with Parasound, Krell, Pass Lab and other SS amplifiers, in my humble opinion electrostatic speakers will work best with OTL tube amplifiers. The best match for your SL is actualy Atma Sphere MA-2 (which is quite expensive), but MA-1 model will work as good.

There are several technical reasons why OTL amplifires work so nicely with electrostatics but I will not enter into this subject.

To properly setup this system you will need to replace small tubes delivered with your amplifier (ans preamplifier). Old NOS tubes sound much better. Good power cords are very important. Good XLR cables are also VERY important contrarly to what says the notice, power regenerator is mandatory in all circumstances, as well as heavy room treatement. You need time and patience. Each system optimisation and upgrade will reward you with huge improvements in sound. I’m talking from my first hand experience.

Feel free to coontact me for more details.

I have tested Atma Sphere Class D on my Audiophile 645 (PX, Bassfocus).

This combo works realy fine ! You can find a video on youtube where 645 are driven by Class D in a direct link with Ear Yoshino DAC4 (no preamp).

In France we have a company called WhyNot Cables run by Nathalie Fougues. Her cables (with active shielding) are widely considered by french audiophiles as the very best regardless of the budget. When they appear on the S/H market they are usualy sold within 2-3 days. In my system (A645 + MA1 + MP1) I’m using her power and speakers cables and they are realy excellent. My XLR cables are inexpensive Mogami cables recommended by Ralph which are also very good. Another brand I would recommend is Fadelart cables, very popular in Germany (still it’s a french brand). Mr. Fadel was obsessed with Quad and Sound Lab speakers. His “coherence 2” cables were specificaly made for Sound Lab speakers. However they are (much) more expensive compared to WhyNot and I’m not sure that they are acutaly better than WhyNot cables. If you choose one of these companies you can’t get wrong. Finaly there’s Mr. Reza under SASU TMC company who makes active interconnects and power regenerators. These are quite expensive but also worth every €€€.

I use MA-1 Mk 3.3 with Soundlab A3. I do not find the heat from MA-1 excessive. Yes there are a lot of tubes there, but they do not heat so much. Since I started to listen music on tube amplifiers, I’m having troubles to listen solid state. Atma Sphere amplifiers will give a very smooth and relaxed sound to your stats. Go for it ! And upgrade to 3.3 ! It’s worth every cent.

              Hello King

I have a pair of A3. At one moment I’ve had this kind of problem on one speaker. It turned out to be a moisture issue. The speaker was close to the open window on rainy days and picked up some moisture from the outside. After exposing it to the heat of the sunlight for all day long the problem disappeared by itself. It may not be the same issue on your speaker. Dr. West will certainly know the best.

I’ve moved from Quad ESL 2912 to Soundlab A3. I’m very happy with this evolution of my system. Soundlab are much better in every possible way. I’m looking now to upgrade my amplification. If some of you have Atma Sphere MA-1 for sale, keep me posted please.

I would recommend Atma Sphere as well. I have recently purchased Soundlab speakers which I run with Atma Sphere M-60 + MP-1 right now. I live in Paris. We have many fine tube amplifiers here in Europe. But I largerly prefer Atma Sphere gear over any other tube amplifier which I have listened so far. That should tell you how good these are.
